Nikolai Gogol’s comedy presents the lies and nature of the authorities and inhabitants of a small town. One day, a man arrives in town, and everyone assumes he is an inspector. Fearing this, the authorities begin to flatter him, hiding their faults and mistakes. Meanwhile, the protagonist, who holds no official power, uses the situation for his personal gain. The performance is a sharp satire that harshly criticizes bureaucracy and the absence of logic in society.
