A poor Argentine family of Italian descent lives with their elderly grandmother, Carmen. Despite her advanced age, she continuously eats while the family struggles to pay the bills and secure food. Slowly, the grandmother drives the family toward ruin. Desperate, the family members begin resorting to various tricks to earn money and finally rid themselves of the old woman.
