years (1941 – 1955) Tadevos Saryan was the artistic director of Yerevan State Musical Comedy Theatre. He was a huge personality both as an actor and stage director. He staged more than 20 performances, among them “The Eastern Dentist”, “Karineh”, “Happy Day”, “A Big Wedding”, “Spring Song”, “The King Is Enjoying”, “Bayadera”, “Rose Mary”, “The Princess of The Circus”, “Uneasy Happiness”, “The Gipsy Baron”, “On The Bank Of Blue Danube”.
As an actor T. Saryan played such brilliant characters as Mintoev “Morgan’s God parent”, Tadeh “The Flatterer”, Balabeck “Near The Spring Water”, Oskan “Oskan Petrovich In The Other Life”, Arshak Beglarich “Old Illness”, Zupan “The Gipsy Baron”, Taparnicos “The Eastern Dentist”.

The famous maestro was invited to the Musical Comedy Theatre in 1942 and became the first conductor and the chorus master. He worked in the theatre four years (1942 – 1946) and conducted more than ten musical performances. In 1942, April 19-20, he performed (in a concert version) Tigran Chukhajyan’s “Karineh”. Later it was played as a complete performance. Aram Ter-Hovhannessyan conducted such musical comedies as “Bayadera”, “The Fire Priestess”, “The Eastern Dentist”, “Silva” (in Armenian and Russian), “Maritsa”, “Poor Ionafan”, “Better Late Than Never”, “The King’s Enjoying”, Serenade”, “Rose Mary”.

In the history of Yerevan Musical Comedy Theatre Vartan Adjemyan is a classical name. The achievements of the theatre during 1947 – 1953 years are connected with his activities. “Morgan’s God Parent”, “The Flatterer”, “Near The Spring Water”, “The Free Wind”, “The Eastern Dentist”, “Karineh”, “In The World Of Flowers” – those were the performances in which brilliantly showed themselves such actors and actresses as Tadevos Saryan, Karp Khachvankyan, Svetlana Grikoryan, Artashes Arevshatyan, Melineh Hamamjyan, Alla Andreassyan. In his performances Adjemyan proved the leading role of the stage director in musical comedy theatre. He insisted that in this theatre singers, dancers even chorus singers must act as actors and have a very active position on the stage. It was a new quality for the theatre and the years of Adjemyan’s directing remained as a “golden era’’ of the theatre.
